I am giving away something that took me months to build.

And no, this is no hogwash & I am not promising you the moon here. It IS possible to come up with a headline real quick, & I will demonstrate the same in some time.

Let me not rehash the same old story by starting to tell how important a headline is for the success of a story. If you have clicked on this story, you already know its importance.

So, let's skip that part.

[You may check out more about headlines here.]

We will discuss how to come up with an exciting headline in a flash using this list of 700+ power words. We will get there in a minute.

How it all started

It goes back to my initial days of writing when I started realizing the significance of having good headlines.

I would research a lot (and still do) and come up with these wonderful and flavorful words that immediately zing up the headline.

I started hoarding them selfishly.

So, when I would sit down to write a headline, I would open this excel sheet and look for appropriate words to fit into my headline. This made the headline process very smooth.

This is how it looks like [Author]

The sweet deal

The moment I started collecting the words, I knew this would work superbly. And I was not wrong.

  • It saved me a lot of time hunting for more relevant/catchy words.
  • The list helped me turn my simple and bland headlines into something snappy that grabbed my reader's attention.
  • With my headlines better, my stories performed better, and the metrics soared.

All in all, an ever-growing jackpot.

What should you do with the list?

The list is segregated according to headings, making the search for a similar word easy.

It has 12 sheets under different headings like:

Fear-based power words

Curiosity power words

Power words for ‘simple’, ‘safe’, ‘complete’, ‘guide’, etc.

Greed-based power words

And on goes the list. 700 of them. Phew!

And I have a crucial piece of advice for you once you have downloaded it.

Don’t stop feeding it.

Keep adding your power words to this list, and make this your go-to doc.

And here comes the fun part

Okay, this is where we get down to business and see how to use this extensive list to create a good headline. I will give you two examples to drive my point home.

Example 1:

So, let's say you wrapped up an extensive story about home gardening. And the basic headline is something like this:

Complete Guide To Your Home Garden

Look for alternatives for 'complete,' 'guide,' and an 'exciting' adjective to go with the word garden.

The A-Z Starter Kit To Your Droolworthy Home Garden

OR you can spruce it up to something like this:

The A-Z Starter Kit To Take Your Home Garden From Arid To Droolworthy

Example 2:

Okay, another one.

This one is a listicle of…hmmm….say…[I know crutch words] habits that improve productivity.

10 Habits That Improve Productivity

BECOMES

10 Penny Plain Habits To Jack Up Your Produtivity

So, you see? Having the words handy makes the job so much easier.

Finally…

As discussed in the last story, you need systems in place as you move up the content generation game. This sheet here is one such element that will help you by saving a lot of time.

And again, please remember to keep adding more words and sheets to this. Make it more and more robust.

I am sure you will find this handy in making lip-smacking headlines!
